The world's largest immersive Pixar exhibition, "Mundo Pixar: Pixar, Into the World of Imagination," has opened at Seongsu Culture and Arts Yard. This exhibition was created over a period of six years. After nearly four years of discussions with Pixar regarding intellectual property (IP) rights, it took an additional two years to produce the sculptures and installations. Over the past two years, 2.6 million people worldwide have visited the exhibition, and Korea is the first country in Asia to host it. Preparation for the Korean exhibition took 1.5 years, and after 30 days of installation work, it was unveiled for the first time on May 5, Children's Day.
Korea was chosen as the first Asian country to host the exhibition due to the high demand for Pixar content. Fernando Moya, CEO of Golden Peak Live Entertainment, which organized the exhibition, explained at a press conference held at the venue on May 7, "Koreans are passionate about movies and there are many Pixar fans here, which is why we decided to come to Korea first." He added, "The film industry itself is large, making it an attractive market for us."
The exhibition has received positive reviews since its opening. Within just two days, ticket reservations surpassed 80,000. Organizers predict that, at this pace, ticket sales will reach around 400,000. Visitors have commented, "It feels like stepping inside a real Pixar animation," "It feels as if the emotions from my childhood have come to life," and "This is a unique exhibition that stimulates all five senses."
'Mundo' means 'world' in Spanish. "Mundo: Pixar" is interpreted as a space where the Pixar world comes alive. Fernando Moya expressed his hopes, saying, "I hope visitors experience joyful and happy memories through the exhibition," and "I wish everyone a wonderful time with their beloved Pixar characters, creating lasting memories."
