Doosan Art Center Announces Open Call for 2026 Doosan Art Lab Participants Until June 4

On May 7, Doosan Art Center announced that it will be accepting applications for creators to participate in the 2026 'Doosan Art Lab Performance' until June 4.

The Doosan Art Lab Performance is a creator support program launched by Doosan Art Center in 2010. It provides support for creators under the age of 40 in the performing arts field, allowing them to freely experiment with their works without restrictions on genre or format. Through the Doosan Art Lab Performance, Doosan Art Center has supported 109 teams of creators to date, showcasing works in a variety of genres including theater, musicals, dance, pansori, and music.

Each year, creators selected through a regular open call present their unique artistic directions and interests in various ways through showcases held at the beginning of the year. This year, eight works were presented in the Doosan Art Lab Performance through March, attracting an audience of around 2,000 people.

Among the creators who participated in Doosan Art Lab Performance 2025, Bonju (playwright and director) and Lee Kyunghun (playwright) have been selected as Doosan Art Center artists and will continue their creative work in collaboration with Doosan Art Center. In addition, works such as 'Carthage,' 'This Is a Story About Existence and Survival and Self-Interest,' and 'Over the Ttechang: Munjeon Bonpuri,' which were previously presented at Doosan Art Lab, have been developed into official performances and met with audiences. 'Itaewon Transgender-Club 2F' and 'Catching Up with Angelina Jolie' are also scheduled for official performances this year.

The 'Doosan Art Lab Performance' open call is open to any creator of Korean nationality under the age of 40 who is interested in exploring the role of contemporary art and attempting new experiments in the field of performing arts. Experiments can take various forms, including showcases, workshops, and readings, without any genre restrictions. Selected creators will receive production development funding (10 million KRW), a presentation venue (Doosan Art Center Space111), rehearsal space, feedback during the development process, stage technology support, and promotional marketing assistance.

Doosan Art Center announced that the Doosan Art Lab Performance, which has been operated with free admission until now, will switch to a paid admission system starting next year, with tickets priced at 10,000 KRW. In addition, the center stated that all ticket proceeds, excluding reservation fees, will be provided to the supported creators.

To participate in the Doosan Art Lab open call, applicants must download the application form from the Doosan Art Center website, complete it, and register it on the application page. Detailed information can be found on the Doosan Art Center website. After the application is submitted, the selection process will include a document review and individual interviews, with final selections to be made in July. The selected creators will present their works on stage between January and March of next year.
