Korea Film Gender Equality Center Dundeun has taken its first step toward creating a gender-equal and safe film production environment by partnering with Boram Kwon, the nation’s first intimacy coordinator.
Dundeun announced on May 7 that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with intimacy coordinator Boram Kwon on May 2, during the Jeonju International Film Festival. This agreement is being regarded as an institutional turning point for the full-scale introduction of the intimacy coordinator system in the Korean film and video industry.
An intimacy coordinator is a professional who protects the physical and emotional safety of actors and facilitates communication with directors and production staff when filming scenes involving nudity or physical contact in movies or dramas. While the system is already widely adopted in Hollywood and other regions, it is still in its early stages in Korea.
Through this agreement, Dundeun plans to jointly pursue various initiatives for the practical establishment of the intimacy coordinator system, including raising awareness of the system, developing educational content, preparing guidelines, and making policy proposals.

Boram Kwon is the first intimacy coordinator in Korea to have completed the regular course of the International Professionals Association (IPA), and is a field expert with experience as a producer on films such as "Youngju" and "Big Sleep." She is currently actively working to protect the rights and interests of actors and production staff and to create a safe production environment.
Kwon stated, "An intimacy coordinator is not someone who disrupts the creative process, but a partner who produces better results through trust with actors and production staff. I hope that, through this agreement, a safe and respectful culture will spread to more sets."
Dundeun is a gender equality organization established and operated by the Korean Women Filmmakers’ Association, and has continuously implemented policies and activities to prevent sexual harassment and sexual violence and to promote a culture of gender equality in the film and video industry. Recently, Dundeun has been accelerating efforts to establish the intimacy coordinator system domestically, aiming to create effective, field-oriented systems.
A Dundeun official said, "This agreement is not just a declaration, but the first attempt to establish a system that can actually function on film and video production sites. We will continue to do our best to lay the foundation for a production environment where all creators are respected."
