Scheduled for Completion in August
To Be Used as a Community Space for Residents
Gangbuk-gu in Seoul will transform an abandoned vacant lot in Mia-dong into a community space where residents can connect with nature. This project is part of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's "Lifestyle Sensibility City: Citizen Living Space Creation Project" and is scheduled to begin construction on May 8, with completion expected in August.
The new rest area will cover 188 square meters (approximately 57 pyeong) and will be more than just a place to relax?it will be converted into a community space where residents can freely meet and communicate. In line with the concept of a "nature-linked sensibility space," the site will feature diverse landscaping, shade structures, and rest facilities, and will be designed for year-round use regardless of the season.
This project is being carried out as a resident participation initiative, rather than being solely led by the local government. Feedback collected during a resident briefing session in October last year was reflected in the design, and the Gangbuk-gu Public Design Promotion Committee reviewed the plans to enhance the quality of the space. Lighting will also be installed for crime prevention and to improve the nighttime landscape, ensuring that residents can safely use the space even after dark.
Gangbuk-gu expects this project to realize a variety of social values, including improving the local environment, enhancing residents' quality of life, and revitalizing the community.
Mayor Lee Soonhee stated, "We will transform this neglected space into an emotional space for local residents, creating a place for rest and communication in everyday life," and added, "We will continue to pursue community-tailored projects to improve the living environment."
