"Experience Nostalgic Barley Fields at World Cup Stream in Mapo-gu Without Leaving the City"

World Cup Stream in Mapo-gu (headed by Mayor Park Kangsoo) has been transformed into a scenic barley field that evokes nostalgia for one's hometown, drawing significant attention.

In November 2024, Mapo-gu renovated World Cup Stream, which had suffered from soil erosion, river flooding, and odor issues due to abnormal weather such as localized heavy rain, to create a clean river environment.

In addition, various trees and flowers, including young barley, poppies, liriope, and crape myrtle, were planted on a 16,980-square-meter area along both sides of the stream.

In March this year, a barley stepping event was also held to wish for the healthy growth of the barley. Children from the Mapo-gu Office workplace daycare center and Seongsannuri daycare center participated in the event.

On that day, the children spent a warm time connecting with nature as they gently stepped on the barley sprouts with their small feet to help the barley grow strong. Mapo-gu also installed informational signs introducing the barley and poppies along the walking paths, adding to the enjoyment of discovering nature during a stroll.

As a result, residents can now enjoy the vibrant green barley fields in the heart of the city without having to travel to distant regions known for their barley festivals.

Currently, the barley at World Cup Stream is growing lush and green, welcoming residents who come to enjoy a walk.

Mapo-gu is also working on renovating and expanding the pedestrian path along the metasequoia road next to World Cup Stream, and plans to plant a variety of herbaceous flowers and trees here to create a healing space where people can enjoy nature up close throughout the year.

Mayor Park Kangsoo of Mapo-gu said, "I hope you can immerse yourself in childhood memories in the wide barley fields along World Cup Stream," adding, "We will continue to create nature-friendly spaces so that residents can experience the beauty of greenery close to their daily lives."
