Czech Nuclear Power Plant Contract Uncertain... Czech Court Orders Suspension of Administrative Procedures

The likelihood has increased that the "Czech Nuclear Power Plant Contract," which was scheduled to take place at Liechtenstein Palace in the Czech Republic on the 7th (local time), will be postponed. This follows a Czech court issuing an injunction to halt the final signing of the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant construction contract.

Czech Nuclear Power Plant Contract Uncertain... Czech Court Orders Suspension of Administrative Procedures

On this day, Czech local media outlet Ceska Tiskova Kancelar reported, "The Brno court has issued an injunction to suspend the final signing of the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant construction contract between CEZ’s EDUII and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, the preferred bidder." Electricite de France (EDF), which had competed with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power for the Czech nuclear power plant order, filed for an injunction last month, and the Czech administrative court has accepted this request.

The Czech district court explained the reason for granting the injunction, stating, "The important point is that if the contract is signed, the French bidder would irreversibly lose the opportunity to win the public contract, even if the court later ruled in their favor in the lawsuit."

In response, a representative from Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power stated, "This acceptance of the injunction means that the Czech administrative court has decided to suspend the final contract procedure for the Dukovany nuclear power plant," adding, "We are currently discussing response measures, including whether to proceed with the final contract, with the ordering party EDUII."
