Lee Nakyeon and Han Deoksoo Call for Cooperation in Forming Coalition for Constitutional Amendment

"Lee Jaemyung's 'Meoksanism' Has No Feasible Policies"

Lee Nakyeon, Senior Advisor of the New Future Democratic Party, and Han Deoksoo, independent presidential candidate, agreed on May 6 to cooperate in forming a coalition for constitutional amendment.

After a luncheon meeting with Han at a restaurant in Jung-gu, Seoul, Senior Advisor Lee said in a briefing, "We have agreed to work together to form a coalition for constitutional amendment with like-minded people, so that the Republic of Korea can move beyond the valley of despair and toward the birth of new hope in the 7th Republic. We will cooperate to push forward with constitutional reform."

Lee explained, "In the face of the reality where democracy and even the national system of the Republic of Korea are facing a deepening crisis due to the two groups (the Democratic Party and the People Power Party), Prime Minister Han (candidate Han) and I have decided to join forces and seek a new opportunity for hope through our collective wisdom."

He added, "This presidential election is a contest between moving toward a normal state through constitutional amendment or becoming a monstrous state through legislative overreach. Prime Minister Han and I will work together to restore the Republic of Korea to a normal state through constitutional reform."

(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Junghoon = On the 6th, at Conference House Dalgaebi in Jung-gu, Seoul, independent presidential candidate Han Deoksoo and former Prime Minister Lee Nakyeon shook hands before their luncheon meeting. 2025.5.6 [Joint Coverage] uwg806@yna.co.kr (End)

Candidate Han said, "I truly feel that our country is in a crisis as precarious as a pile of eggs. Unless we fundamentally change things through constitutional amendment, I am concerned that our country will become unable to sustain the Miracle on the Han River."

He continued, "Recently, there have been retaliatory discussions about impeaching the Chief Justice and Supreme Court Justices. This is an act that seeks to destroy the rule of law and liberal democracy in our country. I believe it is truly an act of violence that disrupts the constitutional order."

Regarding Lee Jaemyung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, and his 'Meoksanism' pledge, Han criticized, "The title sounds very good, but when you look at the details, nothing is feasible. If such a policy were adopted, I believe it would not be Meoksanism but would instead lead the country straight to hell."

Han added, "I am deeply grateful that Senior Advisor Lee has taken on such an active role and promised to continue giving advice and making efforts. Going forward, I will consult even more closely with former Prime Minister Lee Nakyeon to ensure our success."
