Bang Jeonghwan: "Always Raise Children with Praise"

On May 4, Ryu Kyunggi, Mayor of Jungnang District, wrote on his social media that the "Jungnang Children's Play Festival" was held at Yongma Waterfall Park in celebration of the 103rd Children's Day.

He also stated, "Bang Jeonghwan was the first in Korea to use the term 'children' and to establish Children's Day. In front of Bang Jeonghwan's grave at Mangwoo History and Culture Park, there is an inscription that reads: 'Always make children's lives enjoyable. Always raise children with praise. Always pay close attention to children's health. Always encourage children to read books. For hope, for tomorrow, let us all raise children well together.'"

To mark Children's Day, Jungnang District operated a variety of play programs for children throughout the community.

First, on May 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the "2025 Jungnang Children's Play Festival" was held at the circular plaza of Yongma Waterfall Park.

Jungnang District has been designated a Future Education District by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and supports the healthy growth of children and youth through educational programs in partnership with the local community. The "Jungnang Children's Play Festival," now in its sixth year, is the flagship project of the Future Education District's After-School and Childcare Activities Integrated Support Division. It originally began as a play camp and has been expanded and held at Yongma Waterfall Park as a play festival since 2022.

This year's event featured play experts and locally trained play instructors, with a total of 20 play teams operating booths with various themes. Activities included board games, top spinning, stone-throwing games, and world culture experiences, allowing children to learn, experience, and enjoy through physical activities. Participation was open to everyone without prior registration, and anyone could join the programs after on-site registration.

During the same period, customized play events commemorating Children's Day were also held at Jungnang District's communal childcare centers and indoor playgrounds.

From May 2 to May 5, themed play and parent-child experience programs were offered at the Myeonmok 4-dong branch of Jungnang Indoor Playground. On May 5, the Yangwon branch hosted the "Bustling Yangwon Detective Squad! Find Dolbae!" program, while nine communal childcare centers in the district provided photo zones, mini-games, and hands-on activities to ensure a meaningful time for children.

In particular, the "Haetsalare (Branch No. 6)" and "Greennarae (Branch No. 15)" communal childcare centers operated special hours without the usual Monday closure for Children's Day, and families participating in the play events at communal childcare centers received commemorative gifts. Families wishing to participate could make advance reservations through the Jungnang District Childcare Support Center or the Woori Dongnae Childcare Portal website.

Ryu Kyunggi, Mayor of Jungnang District, stated, "We have prepared a wealth of experiential opportunities so that children can play freely and grow up healthy throughout the community," adding, "We will continue to promote a variety of programs to create a happy educational and welfare environment for children in the future."
