The prosecution has reportedly summoned Jeon Sungbae, also known as Geonjinbeopsa, who is suspected of receiving a necklace and other items from the Unification Church to be given as gifts to First Lady Kim Keonhee.
According to legal sources on May 3, the Virtual Asset Crime Joint Investigation Division of the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office, led by Chief Prosecutor Park Geonwook, summoned Jeon as a suspect on this day and conducted an intensive investigation into allegations of violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act.
This is the first time the prosecution has summoned Jeon since conducting a search and seizure of the residence of former President Yoon Sukyeol and his wife in Seocho-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, on April 30.
The prosecution is reported to have checked whether Jeon actually received luxury necklaces worth around 60 million won and other items from the Unification Church and delivered them to First Lady Kim Keonhee's side.
It was previously found that the search and seizure warrant for former President Yoon's residence also specified that Jeon and another individual, identified as Yoon, provided gifts to the spouse of a public official in connection with official duties between April and August 2022.
