Gwangjin-gu Creates "Maeryeok Garden" on Former Street Vendor Site, Adding Vibrancy to the City

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyungho) has transformed the former site of street vendor removals near Gangbyeon Station into the "Maeryeok Garden," presenting a pleasant and beautiful streetscape.

After the removal of street vendors, the previously vacant lot at 546-3, Guui 3-dong, has been newly converted into an attractive green space. The district actively communicated with residents throughout the project, incorporating their feedback from the design stage to completion.

The garden measures 45 meters in length, 1.5 meters in width, and covers a total area of 67.5 square meters. Various flowering shrubs and herbaceous plants, including Hydrangea and Daffodils, have been planted, breathing new life into the street environment. The green rest area is receiving a positive response not only from nearby residents but also from citizens using Gangbyeon Station, as it offers a relaxing oasis within the city.

Kim Kyungho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, stated, "The creation of Maeryeok Garden is not simply an expansion of green space, but the first step in establishing a garden culture in daily life, developed in collaboration with local residents. We will continue to do our best to create a walkable urban environment with customized green projects that reflect the characteristics of the area and the opinions of residents."

The district is continuously working to improve the streetscape and ensure pedestrian safety. On April 17, the district removed and renovated two long-abandoned street vendor stalls near Gunja Station and the nearby bus stop, as well as one sidewalk business facility whose permit had been revoked. Other illegal street vendor stalls will also be addressed through "road restoration orders." Since the launch of the 8th popularly elected administration, a total of 106 street vendor stalls have been renovated to date.
