On April 29, LG Uplus officially announced through a public disclosure that it plans to build a large-scale data center specializing in artificial intelligence computing on the idle site of LG Display in Wollong-myeon, Paju City (with an area of approximately 73,712 square meters). LG Uplus acquired this site in May 2024, and it is located within the LCD General Industrial Complex.
The data center is scheduled for completion in 2027, with a total investment of 615.6 billion KRW. Through this project, LG Uplus plans to establish core infrastructure for the future AI industry and secure advanced data processing capabilities.
Paju City expects that this investment will not only involve the establishment of a facility, but will also have positive ripple effects in various areas, including securing future growth engines for the region, creating jobs, and building a foundation for advanced industries.
Paju City is currently providing prompt and stable support for administrative permits and approvals, and plans to continue operating a flexible administrative cooperation system tailored to the company's schedule in the future.
Kim Kyoungil, Mayor of Paju City, stated, "This corporate investment is highly significant, as it not only involves the attraction of a facility, but also demonstrates that Paju City is evolving into a future-oriented city equipped with an advanced digital infrastructure and sustainable industrial facilities. We will continue to pursue strategic corporate attraction and administrative support to deliver tangible results that citizens can experience."
