The 1st Busan Nakdong River Slow Triathlon Festa
To Be Held on May 4 at Hwamyeong Ecological Park, Open to Beginners
Non-competitive Six Categories, Over 1,000 Athletes and Enthusiasts Participating
The city of Busan will hold the '1st Busan Nakdong River Slow Triathlon Festa' on May 4 at the Hwamyeong Ecological Park area in Buk-gu.
This is the first triathlon event to be held along the Nakdong River. The event will be conducted under the concept of a 'slow triathlon,' focusing on allowing participants to experience and complete the course while enjoying nature. The emphasis is placed on the experience rather than competition.
The event is designed so that beginners and families can participate without pressure, and the race along the Nakdong River will be a festival that both citizens and enthusiasts can enjoy together.
There are a total of six categories: Standard, Sprint, Mini, Aquathlon, Duathlon, and Family Relay. More than 1,000 triathlon enthusiasts from across the country are expected to participate, including Heo Minho, the first Korean triathlete to compete in the Olympics.
For the Standard category, the course consists of a 1.5 km swim, a 46 km bike ride, and a 10 km run. The segments are set along the Nakdong River waters, Yangsan Wondong, and the Hwamyeong Ecological Park area.
Heo Minho will participate in the event and interact with citizens. As Heo is also active in entertainment programs, he is expected to attract attention from sports fans.
The Busan Triathlon Association will also hold a vlog contest for participants to promote the event. The contest will feature short-form video content on any topic, aiming to spread the festive atmosphere, and the winning entries will be posted online.
As a side event, Busan's communication character 'Bugi' will host a selfie event. The city will operate the event without separate traffic controls and plans to deploy about 200 safety personnel, including water rescue teams and emergency medical staff, to ensure the safety of participants and park visitors.
Son Taeuk, Director of Busan's Sports Bureau, said, "This will be an opportunity to promote the Nakdong River basin, where people and nature coexist, by combining it with recreational sports and expanding opportunities for citizens to participate in sports activities."
