This suspension bridge is a pedestrian-only suspension bridge with a length of 515 meters and a width of 2.5 meters, connecting the Silleuksa tourist site on the north side of the Namhangang River with the Geumeunmorae Recreation Area on the south side.
This project was promoted as a flagship initiative under the 'Gyeonggi Province Regional Balanced Development Project,' with a total of 33.2 billion won invested from both city and provincial budgets in Yeoju City. Since 2015, Gyeonggi Province has been implementing balanced development projects targeting six underdeveloped areas in the northern and eastern regions?Yeoncheon, Gapyeong, Yangpyeong, Yeoju, Pocheon, and Dongducheon?and has invested a total budget of 868.6 billion won in the first and second phases to date.
With the opening of this suspension bridge, Yeoju City has declared 2025 as the 'First Year of Yeoju Tourism' and has begun full-scale efforts to foster the local tourism industry. The city plans to strengthen its competitiveness as a stay-type tourist destination by establishing a 'tourism belt' that links major attractions such as the suspension bridge, the Ceramic Festival, Silleuksa Temple, museums, and the Geumeunmorae Camping Site.
The opening of the 'Yeoju Namhangang Suspension Bridge' is expected to serve not only as an expansion of tourism infrastructure but also as a representative achievement of the balanced development project in eastern Gyeonggi Province and a turning point for Yeoju City's tourism strategy. Through the tourism belt that connects the Namhangang Suspension Bridge, the Ceramic Festival, Silleuksa Temple, museums, and the Geumeunmorae Camping Site, it is anticipated that domestic and international tourists will find new reasons to visit Yeoju City.
Lee Gyesam, Director of the Balanced Development Planning Office of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "The Yeoju Namhangang Suspension Bridge is a symbolic achievement of the Gyeonggi Province Regional Balanced Development Project and serves as an example of new possibilities for tourism in Yeoju City." He added, "The province will actively pursue the upcoming third phase of the regional balanced development project to lead systematic, region-specific balanced development policies and establish a sustainable growth foundation for the northern and eastern regions of Gyeonggi Province."
