Police Book Key Party Official for Investigation
Physical Contact and Sexually Harassing Remarks Over 10 Months
The police have launched an investigation into a case in which an official of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party filed a complaint alleging sexual harassment by a superior.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on May 1 that it had booked a key official of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party, referred to as A, on suspicion of sexual harassment by abuse of occupational authority on April 28 and is currently investigating the case.
The victim, identified as B, filed a complaint against A at the Jongno Police Station on April 28, and the case was immediately transferred to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.
It is reported that in the complaint, B included allegations that A made physical contact and sexually harassing remarks on multiple occasions over a period of 10 months, and also attached evidence such as witness statements.
The Cho Kuk Innovation Party stated that reports of misconduct were received on April 14 and April 17, and that, in accordance with procedure, the matter was referred to the party's Ethics Committee.
The party also announced that it had taken necessary measures, such as separating the victim and the accused, and that it would take further action based on the results of a fact-finding investigation requested from an external expert organization.
