Oh Unseok, Dobong District Mayor, Conducts Disaster Response Drill with Staff on April 28
Dobong District to Operate Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters 24 Hours a Day from May 15 to October 15
Dobong District in Seoul (District Mayor Oh Unseok) conducted a disaster response drill for summer heavy rains and typhoons on April 28 at the riverside area of Dobongcheon near the First Dobong Bridge.
More than 60 relevant public officials, including District Mayor Oh Unseok, participated in the drill. On this day, they practiced operating water pumps and stacking sandbags, gaining hands-on experience in disaster response procedures.
District Mayor Oh also worked hard alongside the staff, personally demonstrating the installation of portable flood barriers in front of the employees.
District Mayor Oh urged, "Even if we have completed all the necessary preparations to prevent flood disasters, unexpected situations such as abnormal weather can still occur. I ask everyone to remain vigilant and continue to implement flood control measures without letting your guard down."
Previously, the district had completed a comprehensive inspection of flood-prone areas and flood control facilities. Any deficiencies identified during the inspection have been addressed. Dredging and improvement work on sewage pipes and storm drains has also been completed.
This year, the district plans to focus its administrative capacity on implementing flood disaster countermeasures. From May 15 to October 15, for a period of five months, the district will operate a Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters for flood disasters 24 hours a day.
The headquarters, headed by the district mayor, consists of 13 working teams, including the Situation Management Team, Facility Restoration Team, and Life Support Team. It oversees and coordinates all matters related to disaster preparedness and response.
When flood advisories or warnings are issued, the "Flood Disaster Vulnerable Companion Partner" system will be activated. Partners, composed of care officials, local leaders, and neighboring residents, are responsible for protecting vulnerable households, such as people with severe disabilities and the elderly living in semi-basement homes.
In the event of river flooding, the Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Situation Room will remotely restrict access to the river and operate a River Patrol Team, made up of police officers and members of the autonomous disaster prevention group, to manage the situation on site.
