to Address Local Issues
Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province announced on April 30 that it has been selected for the "2025 Lifelong Learning Opportunity Special Zone Operation Support Project" organized by Gyeonggi Province.
The "Lifelong Learning Opportunity Special Zone" project supports cities and counties in the province to address local issues through lifelong education, and to implement innovative lifelong learning models that demonstrate autonomy and creativity.
Pyeongtaek City was selected for this project by proposing a customized lifelong vocational education model aimed at resolving regional disparities in the urban-rural complex city and responding to the climate crisis. The model includes strengthening digital capabilities, nurturing care workers, and providing environmental education.
With this selection, the city plans to promote the training of digital distribution experts for young farmers and middle-aged groups, the training and employment linkage of care workers for the elderly, and the training and networking of environmental education experts to respond to the climate crisis.
In particular, the city aims to establish a sustainable lifelong learning ecosystem through joint operation with International University, Pyeongtaek Environmental Education Center, and Pyeongtaek Community Welfare Center, among others.
Jung Youngsoon, head of the Pyeongtaek Lifelong Learning Center, stated, "This selection will serve as an opportunity to realize a practical lifelong learning model that goes beyond simple educational projects and connects citizens' lives with local issues. We will continue to make Pyeongtaek a lifelong learning city where everyone can grow and contribute through learning."
