Interagency Meeting Held
to Prevent and Respond to Large-Scale Wildfires
On April 30, Changwon Special City held an interagency meeting to share the results of the spring wildfire prevention comprehensive plan, explore areas for improvement, and ensure thorough measures to minimize forest damage and facilitate recovery and follow-up in the event of a wildfire.
The meeting was presided over by Deputy Mayor Cho Myungrae and attended by relevant city departments, the police, the fire department, the forestry cooperative, and other agencies that collaborate in the event of a wildfire. Participants discussed prevention strategies, wildfire suppression command systems, resident evacuation plans, and other response measures for large-scale wildfires.
In particular, the causes and response strategies for large-scale wildfires that occurred nationwide this year were analyzed. The city plans to proactively block wildfire causes by expanding the operation of the wildfire countermeasure headquarters, strengthening surveillance and public awareness in forest-adjacent areas, operating agricultural by-product shredding teams, and conducting intensive inspections of wood-fired boilers.
Additionally, to ensure that helicopters and firefighting personnel can arrive at the scene within the golden time in the event of a wildfire, the city reviewed the command system and the organization and operation of specialized wildfire suppression teams for rapid nighttime response. During the May holiday period, the city is making every effort to prevent even a single wildfire by extending the hours of wildfire monitors and implementing comprehensive prevention measures.
Deputy Mayor Cho Myungrae emphasized, "Recently, illegal burning in forest-adjacent areas and the use of equipment such as brush cutters have led to wildfires. We will actively guide and enforce regulations on burning and work activities in these areas, and do our utmost to prevent and respond to wildfires through close cooperation with relevant agencies."
