Damyang County in South Jeolla Province, led by County Governor Jeong Cheolwon, announced on the 30th that it held the "Together Yet Apart" Healthy Walking Contest on the 29th, with about 500 residents participating simultaneously across six towns and townships.
The walking contest was organized to promote harmony among residents, improve physical fitness, and encourage a culture of regular walking. Walking teams were formed by combining two neighboring regions into one team, and each of the six towns and townships walked at their designated locations.
The walking courses for each of the six towns and townships were as follows: the town area and Bongsan Township walked from the plaza in front of Juknokwon to Gwanbangjerim (4 km); Gasamunhak and Goseo Townships walked along Goseo Jeungamcheon (5 km); Mujeong and Geumseong Townships walked along Mujeong Orecheon (4 km); Changpyeong and Daedeok Townships walked along the riverside in Changpyeong (4 km); Wolsan and Yong Townships walked the Yongmaru-gil trail (6 km); and Subuk and Daejeon Townships walked from Daejeon Pyeongjang U-singak (5 km).
A county official stated, "Walking is a healthy habit that can be practiced consistently anytime and anywhere, without the need for special equipment or a specific location. We will continue to foster a culture where walking becomes a part of daily life, so that all residents can enjoy a vibrant and healthy lifestyle."
Meanwhile, to encourage residents to walk more, the county launched the Walk-On app community in 2021, with 5,526 residents participating annually. In addition, monthly village walks are held to motivate voluntary walking and promote the continued practice of walking.
