Chungnam Province Takes Over Marina Business Affairs from Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries

to Begin on May 1

Chungnam Province announced on April 30 that, starting May 1, it will take over the registration and management of marina businesses from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.

This transfer of authority regarding marina business is a result of the powers of the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries being delegated to provincial governors (heads of metropolitan governments). It follows the enforcement of the "Act on Partial Amendment to Four Laws Including the Act on the Development and Management of Marina Ports for the Comprehensive Delegation of Central Administrative Authority and Affairs to Local Governments."

Accordingly, administrative tasks such as registration, modification, and renewal of marina businesses, which had previously been handled by the Daesan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries under the Ministry, will now be managed by Chungnam Province.

The transferred responsibilities include: ▲ registration, modification, and renewal of marina businesses ▲ reporting succession of business status ▲ reporting business suspension, resumption, or closure ▲ reporting terms of use ▲ receiving plans for the sale of vessels and storage or mooring facilities, among others.

The province will also have the authority to impose administrative penalties such as fines for legal violations, as well as the authority to oversee and manage the safety of vessels and personnel.

Cho Jinbae, Director of Marine Policy for the province, stated, "We are currently formulating the '2nd Chungnam Comprehensive Marina Port Development Plan' to align with the government's marine industry policy direction and respond to changing tourism trends and leisure demand. Through this initiative, we will systematically expand coastal marine leisure tourism infrastructure and convenience facilities in Chungnam, and strive to vitalize the marina industry."
