The Gyeonggi Provincial Fire and Disaster Headquarters will conduct a comprehensive inspection of scrapyards in the province to prevent vapor explosion accidents during the summer season.
The headquarters announced on April 30 that, from May 1 to June 30, it will carry out unannounced inspections of 167 scrapyard facilities in the province, in cooperation with city and county vehicle registration offices. These inspections will focus on the management status of waste oil, the installation of unauthorized hazardous material facilities, and the storage and handling of such materials.

During this inspection, the headquarters will also provide guidance on the safe management of hazardous materials such as waste oil and will actively urge those involved to strictly adhere to safety rules to prevent accidents.
Kim Jaebyeong, head of the Gyeonggi Provincial Fire and Disaster Headquarters, stated, "Before the full onset of the summer heat, we will thoroughly inspect and address potential hazards in scrapyards to protect the lives and property of residents. We ask for the active cooperation of all those involved in scrapyard operations."
Meanwhile, from 2022 to 2024, there were a total of 15 fires at scrapyards in the province, resulting in eight injuries.
