Seongho Electronics is showing strong performance. This is believed to be influenced by reports that the Nintendo Switch 2 console is experiencing a global sellout crisis.
As of 9:28 a.m. on April 30, Seongho Electronics was trading at 1,313 won, up 9.29% from the previous day.
According to industry sources, the Nintendo Switch 2 is currently accepting pre-orders ahead of its official global launch scheduled for June 5. It is reported that more than 2.2 million people have already signed up for pre-orders in Japan alone. Not only in Korea, but also in countries such as the United States, many people are unable to secure pre-orders and are expressing frustration.
To pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2, customers must meet certain requirements, including a one-year online service subscription and at least 20 hours of playtime. Furthermore, those who purchased game titles for the previous Nintendo Switch version must buy a separate upgrade pack in order to play them on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Despite these conditions, the number of pre-orders in Japan has greatly exceeded Nintendo's internal expectations. As a result, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa issued an apology. He stated via social networking services (SNS), "Since we started accepting pre-orders at My Nintendo Store, 2.2 million people have applied in Japan alone," and added, "The current number of pre-orders far exceeds the quantity that can be shipped on the release day."
The Nintendo Switch 2 is the successor to the mega-hit Nintendo Switch, being released eight years after its predecessor. The Nintendo Switch, launched in 2017, sold as many as 150 million units. This is cited as evidence of Nintendo's continued dominance in the Japanese market.
Meanwhile, Seongho Electronics is reportedly the only domestic supplier of the condenser film used in Nintendo's Switch console devices.
