Gyeonggi-do Economic Science Promotion Agency to Hold "Generative AI·Public Data Utilization Startup Competition" on May 30

Gyeonggi Province is accelerating the creation of an AI-based startup ecosystem, aiming to foster a culture of entrepreneurship and discover innovative ideas by combining generative artificial intelligence (AI) with public data technologies.

The Gyeonggi-do Economic Science Promotion Agency announced on April 30 that it is accepting applications for the "2025 Gyeonggi-do Generative AI·Public Data Utilization Startup Competition" until May 30.

This competition was launched to discover creative ideas based on public data and generative AI, and to develop business models that drive social innovation. For the first time this year, the Korea Student Aid Foundation is participating as a supporting organization. The competition is divided into three categories: ▲Idea Planning ▲Product and Service Development ▲(University Students) Generative AI Idea Planning.

Anyone nationwide?including developers, students, entrepreneurs, and aspiring founders?who has the capability to plan ideas or develop products and services using generative AI and public data is eligible to participate.

Entries will undergo a two-stage evaluation process: an initial document review and a second presentation review for each category. Teams advancing to the main competition will be selected based on a comprehensive assessment of AI technological merit, originality, and growth potential. Each advancing team will be assigned a dedicated mentor from a leading big tech company to provide close support and help enhance the technical completeness of their ideas.

At the final competition, which will be held in July 2025, the final rankings in each category will be determined by combining the evaluations of more than 10 experts?including domestic and international accelerators?and an audience review panel, with higher scores awarded to top-performing teams.

Through the selection process in the three categories, a total of nine teams will be awarded: four teams will receive the Gyeonggi Province Governor's Award, four teams will receive the Gyeonggi-do Economic Science Promotion Agency President's Award, and one team will receive the Korea Student Aid Foundation Chairman's Award. The total prize money amounts to 26.5 million won.

Among these, the top entry utilizing public data will advance to the finals of the "13th Ministry of the Interior and Safety Public Data Utilization Startup Competition."

Kim Hyungon, President of the Gyeonggi-do Economic Science Promotion Agency, stated, "I look forward to seeing participants with both creativity and technical skills take on new challenges using public data and generative AI," adding, "We will continue to actively support innovative ideas and products so they can successfully enter the market."
