Ulsan to Add 'Color Village Themed Landscapes' to Coastal Tourist Attractions

Creation of the 'Silk Road' Reflecting the Sunset Colors of Jangsaengpo
'Ocean Road' Linked to the Story of Gwakam, the Seaweed Rock

The city of Ulsan will begin full-scale implementation of the Namgu 'Jangsaengpo Color Village Development Project' and the Bukgu 'Panjang-Jejeon Village Ocean Road Development Project', both of which were selected last May as pilot projects for the 'Color Village Theme Park' initiative. The city aims to complete these projects by September.

In March of this year, together with officials from Namgu and Bukgu, Ulsan finalized the master plans for the creation of coastal tourism landmark color villages through on-site inspections, joint briefing sessions, and expert consultations.

According to the finalized plans, the Namgu 'Jangsaengpo Color Village Development Project' will be carried out in connection with the southern region’s wide-area tourism development and the expansion of the Jangsaengpo circular road. The project budget is 1 billion KRW (500 million KRW from the city, 500 million KRW from the district).

Under the theme of 'Jangsaengpo Silk Road', which features the sunset-inspired signature color of the Jangsaengpo area, the city plans to install unique building facades to create a colorful and emotionally rich streetscape.

The project will also incorporate a collaborative mural featuring the world-renowned pop artist Thomas Vuille’s yellow cat 'Monsieur Chat' and 'Jangsaengi', themed around their friendship, to help promote the area.

Additionally, the city will enhance existing whale culture content and industrial cultural landscapes to create an artistic village space and improve the pedestrian environment. Through these efforts, Ulsan aims to further enhance the appeal of the coastal tourist attraction, revitalize the local commercial district, and improve the quality of life for residents.

The Bukgu 'Panjang-Jejeon Ocean Road Development Project' also has a budget of 1 billion KRW (500 million KRW from the city, 500 million KRW from the district).

In the areas of Panji Village and Jejeon Village in Gangdong-dong, the city will develop a 'Color Theme Road' by introducing coastal color schemes, improving the village streetscape, and implementing projects to create attractive nighttime scenery.

The city will refurbish the roads and breakwater walls around Panji Port and the village streetscape to provide spaces where visitors can enjoy views of the sea and relax. In addition, the creation of an appealing nighttime coastal landscape will offer visitors a dynamic experience of changing scenery throughout the day.

In particular, the plan is to naturally guide marine leisure enthusiasts?such as those who enjoy snorkeling and fishing?as well as visitors to nearby cafes, to the 'Ocean Road', thereby revitalizing this underdeveloped area and promoting 'Gwakam', a rock formation known as Seaweed Rock.

Ulsan City stated, "We expect that this pilot project will serve as an opportunity to infuse the city with vitality and vibrancy through specialized landscapes themed around local colors," and added, "We will continue to discover new projects to create beautiful urban landscapes that everyone can appreciate."
