Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Shanghai to inspect an artificial intelligence (AI) industrial park, according to a report by the state-run Xinhua News Agency on April 29. President Xi stated, "AI is a great undertaking and a great mission for young people."
According to the report, President Xi visited 'Mosukongjian,' an AI industrial park located in Xuhui District, Shanghai, on this day. Mosukongjian is an AI large-model specialized incubating and accelerating platform established by Shanghai, currently housing over 100 companies.
On this occasion, President Xi emphasized, "The acceleration and replacement brought about by AI technology are driving explosive development," and added, "Shanghai should play a leading role in building an industrial ecosystem for large models, synthesizing its experience in incubating the AI industry, and serving as a model in AI research, development, and governance."
President Xi also attended a forum for young entrepreneurs under the theme of 'Autonomous Evolution of Next-Generation Intelligence,' where he reiterated, "AI is a great undertaking and a great mission for young people." He further stressed, "We are comprehensively advancing the construction of a prosperous nation and national rejuvenation, and this is a great era for young people to demonstrate their talents and abilities."
Accompanying President Xi on his visit to Shanghai were top central officials, including Cai Qi, Secretary of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Vice Premier He Lifeng, and Chen Jining, Shanghai Party Secretary. According to Xinhua News Agency, President Xi also visited the New Development Bank of BRICS in Shanghai on the same day.
Meanwhile, President Xi's visit to Shanghai took place amid an ongoing trade war with the second Donald Trump administration in the United States. It was his first visit to Shanghai in one year and five months since late November 2023.
