Kim Moonsoo, former Minister of Employment and Labor, and Han Donghoon, former leader of the People Power Party, have been confirmed as the candidates advancing to the third round of the People Power Party presidential primary.
The People Power Party Presidential Primary Election Management Committee announced the results of the second round of the primary, including this decision, at around 2 p.m. at the party's central headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul.
Hong Joonpyo, former mayor of Daegu, and Ahn Cheolsoo, People Power Party lawmaker, who had advanced to the semifinals, were eliminated.
The second round of the primary was conducted under rules that weighted party member votes at 50% and public opinion polls at 50%.
As no candidate received a majority in the second round, a final runoff between the first and second place candidates will be held on May 3.
Kim, the former minister, and Han, the former leader, who have advanced to the third round, will participate in a one-on-one debate on April 30. The final candidate will be selected at the party convention on May 3, following an electoral college vote (50%) and a public opinion poll (50%) conducted on May 1 and 2.
