Busan Women Family and Lifelong Education Promotion Institute Selects 31 Institutions for Adult Literacy Education Support

Expansion of Adult Literacy Education Support
Project to Run from May to November

The Busan Women Family and Lifelong Education Promotion Institute (Director Yoon Jiyeong) has finalized the selection of 31 institutions to participate in the "Adult Literacy Education Program Support Project" and will provide support to enhance the literacy skills of adults in the Busan area and expand lifelong learning opportunities.

With this selection, it is expected that illiterate and low-educated adults in Busan will be able to strengthen their basic life skills and digital competencies through a wide range of diverse literacy education programs.

Literacy education, which goes beyond the ability to read and write and fosters various basic skills necessary for social life, is an essential form of education for illiterate adults. Especially as the importance of digital information utilization skills increases in a rapidly changing social environment, the institute plans to use this project to broadly support not only basic literacy education but also digital and practical literacy education, thereby working to substantially strengthen learners' competencies.

This "Adult Literacy Education Program Support Project" was open to lifelong education facilities, non-profit corporations, and non-profit private organizations in Busan with experience operating adult literacy education programs. After a rigorous evaluation process, a total of 31 institutions were selected. The selected institutions will receive funding for operating literacy education programs and support for professional instructors.

The institute will hold a project briefing session on April 30 for the 31 selected institutions and dispatched instructors to facilitate understanding of the overall project and to share information for successful program operation. Each selected institution will operate customized literacy education programs for illiterate, low-educated adults, and people with disabilities over a seven-month period from May to November.

Going forward, the institute plans to expand support for digital and practical literacy education programs that reflect the characteristics of the Busan region, in addition to basic literacy education support. The goal is to increase social participation opportunities for illiterate, low-educated adults and people with disabilities, and to bridge the information gap.

Yoon Jiyeong, Director of the institute, stated, "The Busan Metropolitan City Literacy Education Center, designated and operated by Busan City, is making multifaceted efforts to promote adult literacy education in the region. We will do our utmost to promote and vitalize literacy education through the ongoing operation of Busan-style adult literacy education program support projects."
