The Busan National University Museum (President Choi Jaewon) has been selected for the '2025 Unorganized Buried Heritage Preservation and Utilization Project' for the sixth consecutive year.

The 'Unorganized Buried Heritage Preservation and Utilization Project' is overseen by the National Heritage Administration and the Korean University Museum Association. It supports university museums in organizing and transferring to the state unorganized excavated buried cultural heritage that has been held for long periods, publishing academic reports, securing shared assets, and utilizing artifacts to provide opportunities for public cultural enjoyment through exhibitions and education.

Since 2020, the Busan National University Museum has been selected as a project institution for six consecutive years and will receive a total project budget of 148 million won this year as well.

Through this project, by November, the museum plans to organize and transfer to the state unorganized cultural heritage such as the Bokcheondong Ancient Tombs in Busan, the Hapcheon Jeopo E District site, and the Sancheong Oksan-ri site. It also plans to transfer other sites, including the Nopodong Ancient Tombs in Busan, the Gorye-ri Paleolithic site in Miryang, and the Baekcheon-ri Abandoned Tombs in Hamyang, to the National Museum of Korea and various local government museums.

In addition, to share research achievements with the academic community and civil society, the museum plans to publish academic series such as 'Dongnae Bokcheondong Ancient Tombs 17' and 'Sancheong Oksan-ri Site: Three Kingdoms to Joseon Period,' which will be distributed to related institutions and researchers both domestically and internationally.

In connection with this project, the Busan National University Museum is also hiring young professionals and nurturing new researchers through the Ministry of Employment and Labor's 'Ilmoa Job Project' system. Since participating in the project in 2020, the museum has hired a total of 75 people, and this year, it has selected nine personnel specializing in archaeology, history, art, and design.

Lim Sangtaek, Director of the Busan National University Museum and professor of archaeology, stated, "Through this project, we are doing our utmost to systematically organize and transfer to the state valuable unorganized excavated buried cultural heritage that, due to the unique circumstances of university museums, had to be stored in an unorganized state for long periods." He added, "Since being selected for the project in 2020, we have contributed greatly to creating youth jobs and nurturing future talent by selecting numerous young researchers, and we were selected as an outstanding institution for the 2024 project. We are providing the results of our research to civil society and relevant professionals through various exhibitions and educational programs."
