Trump, Ahead of 100 Days in Office, Calls 'Lowest Approval Rating' Polls "Fake News"

On social media: "Fake poll by a fake news outlet"
Provocation on Canadian election day: "Become America's 51st state"

On the 29th (local time), marking his 100th day in office, U.S. President Donald Trump directly refuted the results of a public opinion poll showing his approval rating as the lowest among all presidents, calling it a "fake poll by a fake news outlet."

Trump, Ahead of 100 Days in Office, Calls 'Lowest Approval Rating' Polls "Fake News" UPI Yonhap News

On the 28th, through his own social networking service, Truth Social, President Trump stated, "John McLaughlin, one of the most respected pollsters in the industry, recently said that the polls about me conducted by the New York Times (NYT) and ABC·Washington Post (WP) are fake polls from fake news outlets."

He criticized, "NYT included only 37% of 2024 Trump voters in its poll, and ABC·WP included just 34%. These are unprecedented numbers unless the intention is to produce negative results."

This points to the biased sampling methods of the media outlets, which fail to properly reflect the opinions of his supporters. President Trump had previously defied expectations of a close race with then-Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the November 5, 2024, presidential election and achieved a landslide victory.

According to a poll released by the NYT on the 25th, positive approval for President Trump stood at 42%, while negative ratings reached 54%. In a poll published the previous day by the WP, his approval rating was 39%, the lowest for any president at the 100-day mark in office.

President Trump said, "They should be investigated for election fraud. They are bad criminals. After I won the election by a much larger margin than their polls showed, and after they apologized to their subscribers and readers, they lost credibility and have since continued to commit even more malicious fraud and lies in the next election." He continued, "They suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome, and nothing and no one can stop them. They are sick. No matter how well I do, they write only negative articles, making them the true enemies of the American people."

Finally, President Trump said, "I wish them well," and emphasized, "I will continue the fight to make America great again."

Additionally, President Trump once again expressed his intention to pursue the annexation of Canada on the day of the Canadian general election, seeking to exert political influence.

President Trump asserted, "Choose someone who has the power and wisdom to cut taxes in half and raise military strength to the highest level in the world for free. If Canada becomes America's valuable 51st state, we can quadruple the growth of the automobile, steel, aluminum, lumber, energy, and all other industries without tariffs or taxes."

The Canadian general election that day was held following the early resignation of former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, with his successor being decided by Prime Minister Mark Carney. Throughout this period, President Trump has openly expressed his antipathy toward former Prime Minister Trudeau and has repeatedly made remarks about annexing Canada. It remains to be seen whether the ruling Liberal Party, which has been losing popularity due to Trump's provocations, will secure victory by riding the wave of anti-Trump sentiment, or if it will aid the pursuit of the main opposition Conservative Party.
