The Damyang-gun Cultural Foundation (Chairman Jung Chulwon, hereafter referred to as the Foundation) announced on April 28 that it will launch a new senior cultural and arts program, "Damyangae(愛)Cheongchun," which incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) technology to enhance cultural and artistic experiences for the elderly. The program will begin in May in the Gasamunhak-myeon area of Damyang-gun.

This project targets approximately 500 seniors aged 65 and older in Gasamunhak-myeon. Utilizing AI technology, the initiative aims to restore memories of their youth and reinterpret those memories through cultural and artistic expressions. During the pilot phase, the project received high satisfaction and positive feedback from participating seniors, prompting its full-scale implementation. "Damyangae(愛)Cheongchun" is a senior reminiscence project that fuses technology with culture and the arts, focusing on the personal stories and emotions of each participant.

The core program, AI Youth Restoration Photos, is a service that uses AI analysis to reconstruct a participant's youthful appearance based on their current facial features. This has garnered attention as an emotionally resonant, personalized content offering. The restored photos will be shared with the community in various ways, including framed portraits, the creation of a village archive, and public exhibitions of the results.

Additionally, by utilizing an AI language model (chat GPT), the program supports seniors in expressing their life stories in written form, even if they have never learned to write, based on interviews conducted with them. This process transforms the wisdom and experiences embedded in their lives, as well as the poignant memories of their youth, into artistic and emotional language.

Such creations, whether as "My Life Quotes" or memoir-style writings, are expected to serve as bridges for intergenerational empathy, going beyond simple record-keeping. Life stories conveyed in the seniors' own voices will provide warmth to families and the local community, and the preservation of fading memories as cultural assets is anticipated to be a meaningful endeavor.

A Foundation representative stated, "This will be a moving journey that reconnects seniors with their youth through AI technology, serving as a new model of cultural welfare that respects individual lives and elevates them through art. Starting with Gasamunhak-myeon, we plan to expand the project to other towns and villages in Damyang in the future."
