Gangwon Tops Nationwide Accommodation Booking Rates Ahead of Golden Holiday

Room Reservation Rates at Ten Major Hotels and Resorts in Gangwon Reach 90%
"Visit Gangwon Year" Initiatives Drive Surge... Province Vows to Eliminate Price Gouging

On April 28, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jin-tae) announced that, ahead of the May golden holiday, the room reservation rates at ten major hotels and resorts in Gangwon Province have reached nearly 90%. As a result, accommodation reservation rates in the region have ranked first nationwide, leading to what is being called a "Gangwon travel sold-out" phenomenon.

According to Gangwon Province, during the golden holiday period from May 1 to May 6, Gangwon accounted for 17% of all domestic accommodation bookings on the leisure and travel integrated platform "Nol Universe," surpassing Jeju (2nd place) and Jeonnam (3rd place) to claim the top spot.

Additionally, on the accommodation platform "Yanolja," as of April 23, accommodation bookings in Gangwon for the month of May surpassed 33,000 nights, once again ranking first nationwide.

Gangwon Province attributes this phenomenon to the sustained popularity of travel to Gangwon, as well as to a combination of various initiatives such as the full-scale implementation of the "Visit Gangwon Year," the monthly recommended travel destinations, and the Gangwon Tourism Accommodation Fair.

Since various festivals will be held throughout Gangwon during the month of May, a provincial official expects this trend to continue.

Furthermore, from April 29 to December 12, Gangwon Province plans to run a challenge program encouraging travelers to explore every corner of the region.

This program will allow visitors to collect "visit verification stamps" at major tourist attractions and traditional markets throughout Gangwon, and travelers will have the chance to receive commemorative gifts through a drawing, creating special memories during their visit.

In addition, the province plans to thoroughly prepare for guests by eradicating price gouging and getting ready to operate summer beaches.

Governor Kim Jin-tae stated, "Ahead of the golden holiday starting May 1, major accommodation booking rates in Gangwon have already reached 90%, meaning a sell-out is imminent. If you haven't made a reservation yet, I urge you to do so before it's too late." He added, "In Gangwon, you can enjoy various discounts and benefits without worrying about price gouging, so we look forward to welcoming many visitors."
