Tariff Impact: China's Shein Raises U.S. Prices by Up to 377%

Shein sharply raises prices in the U.S. ahead of "de minimis" exemption repeal
Average prices for top beauty and health products jump 51%
Home goods and kitchenware see over 30% price hikes

Shein, a major Chinese online retailer that has targeted the U.S. market with low-priced products, has sharply increased its product prices ahead of the U.S. government's abolition of the "de minimis" exemption policy.

Tariff Impact: China's Shein Raises U.S. Prices by Up to 377%

Bloomberg reported on April 27 (local time) that Shein significantly raised the prices of most products it sells in the United States, ranging from apparel to kitchenware, over the past weekend.

The average price of the top 100 beauty and health products increased by 51%, with some items more than doubling in price.

Home goods, kitchenware, and toys saw average price hikes of more than 30%. In particular, the price of a set of 10 kitchen towels soared by 377% in just one day, jumping from $1.28 to $6.10.

Women's apparel prices rose by 8%. This has been cited as an indication of the impact the global trade war is having on U.S. consumers.

Earlier this month, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order abolishing the "de minimis" exemption, which had allowed imports from China valued at $800 or less to enter duty-free.

Starting from May 2, even products priced at $800 or less imported from China and Hong Kong into the United States will be subject to high tariffs.
