Lee Hoyoung, the acting Commissioner General of the National Police Agency, announced on April 28 that, in relation to the June 3 presidential election, "We plan to implement phased emergency duty measures nationwide, including issuing the highest level 'Gapho' emergency alert on the main voting day."
During a regular press briefing that day, Acting Commissioner Lee stated, "From the start of the election campaign, integrated election security situation rooms will operate 24 hours a day at police stations nationwide."
He also said, "We will respond strictly to the spread of false information, such as recent issues involving deepfakes, as well as to major election-related crimes," adding, "We plan to strengthen security activities in line with the election schedule."
Acting Commissioner Lee further explained, "Once candidates from each political party are confirmed, we will gradually increase personnel in consultation," and added, "We have selected a total of about 180 people overall."
