Learn About Nature and Insects Through Interactive Activities
Muju County in North Jeolla Province will hold a special event for Children's Day at the Muju Bandi Land Insect Story Experience Center from May 3 to 6.
According to the county on April 28, this event has been organized to coincide with Family Month, allowing families visiting for spring outings to enjoy a variety of programs related to Muju's nature and insects.
In the exhibition hall, visitors can see a total of 12 species of insects, including pet insects such as the Dorcus titanus, diving beetle, Japanese rhinoceros beetle, stag beetle, Prosopocoilus inclinatus, and black diving beetle, as well as edible insects like Allomyrina dichotoma and Tenebrio molitor. Live butterflies, such as the large cabbage white and the swallowtail butterfly, can also be observed.
Educational and play activities tailored for children, such as "making insect specimens," "making insect fossils," "making mosquito repellent," and "making rings from natural materials (ginkgo nuts)," will also be offered. The Children's Day experience will be available from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with on-site registration for up to 20 participants per session on a first-come, first-served basis.
Jung Jaehoon, head of the Firefly Team at the Muju County Agricultural Technology Center's Technology Research Division, said, "We expect this event to provide an opportunity to learn about and observe the importance of nature and insect ecology through hands-on experiences," adding, "We will thoroughly prepare so that visitors can directly experience the stories about nature they have learned from books here in Muju, the Special City of Nature."
The Muju Bandi Land Insect Story Experience Center is usually open from Tuesday to Sunday each week, and programs such as making rings from natural materials and making insect beads are held four times a day.
Nearby, there is an insect museum, a small animal farm, and a firefly restoration site, making it an ideal place for families to enjoy various experiences and create lasting memories together.
Meanwhile, on May 3, the 103rd Children's Day commemorative event will be held at the Muju Bandi Land Gymnasium. Organized by the Muju Regional Child Center Association (President Song Heejin), the event will also feature a celebratory performance by a taekwondo demonstration team.
More than 20 free experience booths will be available, including career experiences with firefighters and police officers, dart archery, and making rice balls, providing local children with unique attractions and enjoyable activities.
