"Two New Venues, 120 Stadiums Under Intensive Preparation"... Busan City Begins Inspection for National Sports Festival Facilities

Vice Mayor Lee Joonseung Inspects Key Venues Including Asiad Main Stadium

Busan City is accelerating its preparations for the 106th National Sports Festival and the 45th National Para Games, which will be held in October, by inspecting stadium conditions and other aspects of the events.

On the afternoon of the 28th, the city announced that Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs Lee Joonseung will visit major venues, including Busan Asiad Main Stadium, to review the overall preparations for the National Sports Festival. This inspection is intended to thoroughly examine not only the progress of stadium renovations but also the safety facilities, emergency response systems, and plans for traffic and parking.

Busan is preparing a total of 120 venues for this year’s events. Of these, two are newly constructed, and 81 are undergoing renovation or refurbishment. The renovations are scheduled to be completed by July, while the new venues are targeted for completion by August. Some events will utilize venues in other cities and provinces.

Busan Asiad Main Stadium will serve as the main stage for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as for track and field events. Since its construction in 2002, the stadium has rarely hosted large-scale sports events, so the city is carrying out extensive upgrades to its aging facilities and equipment. Efforts are being made to welcome approximately 40,000 athletes and spectators by replacing the track and renovating Sajik Indoor Swimming Pool and Gymnasium.

On this day, Vice Mayor Lee plans to personally walk through the Asiad Main Stadium, Central Plaza, Sajik Indoor Gymnasium, and Sajik Indoor Swimming Pool to inspect the preparations. He will closely examine stadium facilities, personnel deployment, safety measures, and vehicle flow, and will immediately address any shortcomings.

The two new venues being built in Busan this year are for tennis and mountain sports. For five events?shooting, equestrian, jokgu, cycling (road), and squash?venues in other cities and provinces will be used.

The 106th National Sports Festival will be held for seven days from October 17 to 23, while the National Para Games will take place from October 31 to November 5. This year’s events prioritize 'safety' and 'consideration,' aiming for an inclusive festival where people with and without disabilities participate together.

Vice Mayor Lee Joonseung emphasized, "Meticulous and detailed preparations in each area are essential for a successful festival," adding, "We will create unforgettable memories for athletes and spectators visiting Busan with a variety of festivals and cultural and artistic content."
