On the 25th, about 60 residents from the Sangmu and Pungam teams participated in the joint jogging event of the Seo-gu Slow Jogging Group held at the 5·18 Memorial Park, sweating it out for about an hour with slow jogging.
Participants shared positive changes, saying, "When I exercised alone, I would give up after a few days, but running together helps me keep going," and "Even at a slow pace, my physical strength has definitely improved."
During the sharing session, Jeong Taesik from the Sangmu team said, "Ten years ago, I was battling stage 3 pancreatic cancer, and after overexerting myself with exercise, I developed a herniated disc and ended up staying at home most of the time. However, since joining the barefoot walking club last year and now the slow jogging group, I have regained much of my health."
Song Minjeong from the Sangmu team said, "A week before starting slow jogging, I was diagnosed with diabetes. I started with some skepticism, but now I have lost more than 2 kg and can really feel my health improving."
Slow jogging, promoted by Seo-gu District to support a healthy lifespan of 100 years, is an exercise that involves running at a slow speed of 3 to 6 km/h. It is more intense than walking but has a lower risk of injury than regular jogging. It also puts less strain on the joints, making it easy for seniors and beginners to participate, and is gaining attention as an alternative exercise that combines the benefits of both walking and running.
Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seo-gu District, said, "Slow jogging may be slow in speed, but when we run together in sync, not only does our health improve, but the warmth of our community grows as well. We will continue to open the track of hope toward a healthy 100-year life era through a variety of programs."
