"Sunhwan Education" Brings Environmental Learning to Jungnang-gu Neighborhoods

The Jungnang-gu Environmental Education Center, led by Mayor Ryu Gyeonggi, is operating an outreach environmental education program called "Sunhwan Education."

"Sunhwan Education," short for "circulating environmental education," is a service in which the Jungnang-gu Environmental Education Center visits residents directly to provide education, targeting those who have difficulty visiting the center due to distance or time constraints.

Now in its fourth year of operation, the center is gradually expanding both the accessibility and scope of its educational offerings so that more residents can easily participate in environmental education.

In April, a variety of hands-on activities were held at Manguma-jung Village Vitality Center in Mangwoo 3-dong and Sagajeongma-jung Village Vitality Center in Myeonmok 3-dong and 8-dong. These included making accessories using sock yarn, making shampoo bars, and creating seed bombs.

In May, environmental education will continue at various locations such as Jungnang Forest Children's Library and Jungnang Youth Center. Practical activities will include making eco-friendly cotton liners, exploring chemicals using coding bots, and building with eco-friendly architectural LEGO. In addition, a reading program called "The Trees Are Gradually Disappearing," designed to help participants understand environmental issues in an easy and enjoyable way, will also be offered.

The district plans to further expand the scope of Sunhwan Education so that all residents in the 16 neighborhoods of Jungnang-gu can have easy access to environmental education. Applications to participate in the programs will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through the Jungnang-gu Environmental Education Center website, starting at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29.

Mayor Ryu Gyeonggi of Jungnang-gu stated, "As awareness of the climate crisis and residents' interest in environmental issues continue to grow, the role of the Environmental Education Center is becoming increasingly important." He added, "Through Sunhwan Education, we will strive to balance educational demand and accessibility, and actively support the operation of diverse programs."
