Hong, Former Daegu Mayor, Responds to Post on Online Communication Platform

Hong Junpyo, former Daegu mayor and a preliminary presidential candidate for the People Power Party, drew attention by expressing his willingness to appear on the YouTube show hosted by progressive broadcaster Kim Eojoon.

On the morning of the 24th, a post titled "To resolve political instability, I believe both former President Yoon Sukyeol and Democratic Party presidential primary candidate Lee Jaemyung must be embraced" was uploaded to Hong's online communication platform 'Cheongnyeonui Kkum.'

Writer A, presumed to be a supporter of Hong, argued, "Both the Lee Jaemyung and Yoon Sukyeol factions should be embraced, but appointments should be based on ability rather than background, moderate and compromising figures should be selected, and those who are radical or oppose inclusivity should not be chosen." The writer then referenced Yeongjo, the 21st king of the Joseon Dynasty, stating, "After the Yi Injwa Rebellion, Yeongjo reappointed the Soron faction who had tried to kill him," adding, "This was for the sake of inclusivity." Yeongjo is known for the 'Tangpyeong Policy,' which aimed to balance political power among factions in late Joseon.

A also suggested, "After the primary, it would not be a bad idea to appear on 'Kim Eojoon's' or 'Maebul Show' to reassure left-leaning supporters who are anxious." 'Kim Eojoon's Humility Is Hard News Factory' and 'Maebul Show,' hosted by broadcaster Choi Wook, are representative progressive YouTube channels. Kim's YouTube channel has 2.1 million subscribers, while 'Maebul Show' has 2.41 million subscribers.

Hong responded to the post, saying, "After the primary, I am considering appearing on Kim Eojoon's show as well."

Previously, during the 20th presidential election in 2021, Hong also appeared on TBS Radio's "Kim Eojoon's News Factory," which was hosted by Kim. When some of his supporters criticized his appearance on the show at the time, Hong countered by saying, "Politics is a process of integration, not division."

Meanwhile, on this day, Hong held an emergency press conference at his presidential campaign office in Yeouido, Seoul, stating his intention to "embrace all political forces for national unity."

He declared, "Regardless of whether they supported or opposed impeachment within the party, I will move forward with everyone," and added, "Not only with supporters of former President Yoon Sukyeol, but also with Acting President Han Ducksoo if he runs for president and joins efforts to unify anti-Lee Jaemyung forces." He further stated, "I will negotiate with Lee Junseok, the presidential candidate of the Reform New Party, for a big tent, and I will also work with the non-Lee Jaemyung faction of the Democratic Party." Additionally, he emphasized that if he wins the presidential election, "I will also work with the Lee Jaemyung faction of the Democratic Party."
