Lee Jaemyung: "Is the prosecution writing fiction with Moon's indictment?... Political retaliation without evidence"

"Indictment Based on Inference and Assessment? The Prosecution Is Not a Scriptwriter"
"Constitutional Amendment Should Proceed Sequentially Based on Public Consensus After the Presidential Election"

Lee Jaemyung, the Democratic Party's presidential preliminary candidate, strongly criticized the prosecution on the 24th for indicting former President Moon Jaein on bribery charges. Lee stated, "Since when did the prosecution of the Republic of Korea become writers of fiction?" pointing out what he described as the prosecution's excessive indictment.

Lee Jaemyung: "Is the prosecution writing fiction with Moon's indictment?... Political retaliation without evidence" On the afternoon of the 24th, at Jeonil Building 245 in Dong-gu, Gwangju, Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party's presidential primary candidate, is embracing Kim Gilja, the mother of the late activist Moon Jaehak. After a democracy forum held at Jeonil Building 245 in Gwangju that day, Lee spoke to reporters, saying, "I have not seen any evidence regarding that case (the bribery charges against former President Moon). When asked why they indicted despite the lack of evidence, the prosecution reportedly answered with 'inference' and 'assessment.' The prosecution is not a place for writing scripts," he said.

He continued, "Saying that it seems that way upon assessment is fiction, not investigation. Can the prosecution maintain the public's trust by acting like this? Fiction should be left to novelists; the prosecution should speak with evidence," he criticized.

On the same day, Lee also expressed his position regarding the push for constitutional amendment. He said, "Constitutional amendment could be pursued as early as next year's local elections or, at the latest, during the general elections. It is desirable to sequentially proceed, based on public consensus after the presidential election, with the inclusion of the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement in the preamble of the Constitution and the reorganization of the power structure."
