"I Feel Like I'm Returning Home Because My Wife's Family Is from Mokpo"

Kim Kyungsoo, a former governor of South Gyeongsang Province and a presidential primary candidate for the Democratic Party of Korea, visited Jeolla Province and emphasized his ties as a "son-in-law of Honam" in an effort to win public support.

On the afternoon of the 22nd at Dongbu Market in Mokpo, South Jeolla Province, Kim told reporters, "Since my wife's family is from Mokpo, every time I come here, I feel like I'm returning to my hometown," adding, "I will ensure that the outcome of this presidential election leads to the development of Honam."

On this day, Kim was carrying out a schedule in the Honam region, targeting the primary voting that began the previous day. After his visit to Dongbu Market in Mokpo, he was also scheduled to hold a meeting with party members from Suncheon and Yeosu in South Jeolla Province.

Kim stated, "Historically, whenever South Korea faced difficulties, Honam saved the country. Even during the periods of martial law, such as the 5·18 and 12·12 incidents, the actions of Gwangju citizens and their resolute judgment against rebellion enabled South Korea to be saved."

He emphasized, "Through this presidential election, I will work together with the people of Honam, who have saved South Korea, to achieve a result that will bring about real change for the country."

Regarding former President Moon Jaein being indicted on bribery charges earlier that morning, Kim said, "(The prosecution) released Yoon Sukyeol, but continues to put Lee Jaemyung, the former Democratic Party leader, on trial, and now has indicted former President Moon as well. I believe the prosecution is showing the extreme of what political prosecutors can do."

He continued, "Such political prosecutors must be dismantled. Only the right to indict should remain, and investigative and political prosecutors must be completely dismantled this time." He added, "I believe the prosecution is already on the path toward dismantlement."
