From Attracting Companies to Investment and Improving Living Conditions
Unified Communication Channels to Resolve Issues
Such as Access Road and Pipeline Maintenance

"Develop and implement the best possible customized support measures to address the needs of businesses." (Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin)

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province has put its utmost effort into attracting semiconductor company investments. In order to secure future growth engines for the city, Yongin is establishing a one-stop administrative support system while also actively working to improve living conditions for companies.

Mayor Lee Sangil of Yongin: "Best Customized Support for Semiconductor Companies" Yongin City has put its all into attracting semiconductor companies by operating a one-stop administrative support system. According to Yongin City on April 24, the city is building a "one-stop administrative support system for semiconductor company investment" to ensure the successful development of the semiconductor belt, including the "Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex" in Idong and Namsa-eup, Cheoin-gu, and the "Yongin Semiconductor Cluster General Industrial Complex" in Wonsam-myeon.

The city aims to provide prompt decision-making and support across all aspects of business operations, from attracting companies and creating a favorable investment environment, to permits and approvals, improving residential conditions, and supporting corporate social responsibility. Yongin believes that attracting not only Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, but also materials, parts, and equipment (MPE) companies that support them, is essential to achieving its goal of becoming a global center for the semiconductor industry.

The city’s one-stop administrative support begins with proactive communication with businesses. Relevant department officials meet directly with company representatives to listen to on-site feedback, and by unifying communication and coordination channels, they are streamlining administrative procedures.

One notable example is Koh Young Technology, a semiconductor inspection equipment company. Through the city’s one-stop administrative support, the company was able to smoothly complete procedures such as changing the use of its building and obtaining approval for occupancy, and in March, it relocated its headquarters and holding company to Sanghyeon-dong, Suji-gu.

The city is also actively addressing difficulties that companies face during factory relocations or new and expanded construction. For example, when SurplusGLOBAL, a semiconductor manufacturing equipment company, encountered difficulties securing access roads during the construction of its new factory, the city coordinated in advance with multiple departments to adjust the location of the access roads. In addition, it handled the related administrative procedures?such as building permits, development activity permits, and road occupancy permits?through a one-stop process.

Similarly, Appletree in Namsa-eup, Cheoin-gu, and Wecron in Jung-dong, Giheung-gu, significantly reduced the time required for administrative procedures during their factory construction and expansion projects by holding prior consultations with the relevant permitting departments.

For JST, located in Jigok-dong, Giheung-gu, which requested drainage system maintenance to prevent flooding during the monsoon season, the city recently completed sewer maintenance work ahead of schedule through interdepartmental cooperation.

The city is also working hard to create an environment that connects these semiconductor companies with the local community. Yongin links companies committed to social contribution with organizations in need of support and proposes customized social contribution programs to help companies contribute to the community more effectively.

Through these efforts, Koh Young Technology has decided to donate scholarships and operate a semiconductor camp for middle school students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Tokyo Electron Korea is currently running the "Yongin Dream Up Semiconductor Camp" program in Yongin. SurplusGLOBAL is expanding its ties with the local community through social contribution activities such as the "Yongin Studies On-site Exploration Education" program.

Mayor Lee Sangil stated, "The one-stop administrative support is a long-term plan established to help ensure the sustainable growth of businesses," adding, "We will continue to communicate with local companies and strive to prevent problems in advance through comprehensive support measures and prior reviews across all aspects of corporate activities."
