"End the Rebellion with an Overwhelming Change of Government"
The chairpersons of local councils in the Gwangju region have called on citizens to actively participate in the upcoming 'Democratic Party 21st Presidential Election Honam Primary,' scheduled for April 26.
In a joint appeal released on April 23, the chairpersons stated, "The removal of President Yoon Suk-yeol, the ringleader of the rebellion who declared an illegal martial law, was a revolution of light fueled by the determination of the citizens." They further pointed out, "The rebellion is not yet over, and accomplices to the rebellion are still running state affairs in public office."
They also criticized, "Prime Minister Han Duck-soo exercised his veto against the special prosecutor bill, the People Power Party scrapped the bill by voting against it, and now they are all flocking to run in the presidential primary, treating it like a game."
They continued, "Only an overwhelming change of government can truly end the rebellion," and appealed, "Please create a wave for regime change and an end to the rebellion through active participation in the primary."
They pledged, "The new wind for a new Republic of Korea will begin in Gwangju and sweep across the nation," and affirmed, "The Democratic Party will always stand together with citizens, hand in hand."
Meanwhile, the appeal was jointly issued by Shin Sujeong, Chairperson of the Gwangju City Council; Kim Myungsoo, Chairperson of the Gwangju City District Council Chairpersons' Association; Moon Sunhwa, Chairperson of the Dong-gu Council; Jeon Seungil, Chairperson of the Seo-gu Council; Nam Hohyun, Chairperson of the Nam-gu Council; and Choi Moosong, Chairperson of the Buk-gu Council.
