Comprehensive Maintenance of Aging Public Parking Lots for Enhanced Safety and Convenience
On April 23, Changwon Special City in South Gyeongsang Province announced that it will carry out comprehensive maintenance on aging public parking lots to enhance citizen safety and parking convenience.
The comprehensive maintenance project for public parking lots will be conducted jointly with the Changwon Facilities Corporation. It will target a total of 10 sites, including the public parking lot behind the Citizen Sports Center, which is in urgent need of improvement, as well as Hanmaeum on-street parking lot and Jungang Multilevel Public Parking Lot.
The project is scheduled to run for approximately three months, from May to July 2025. Through the refurbishment of these aging parking lots, the city expects to improve safety and convenience, thereby enhancing transportation convenience for residents. Some parking lots will have temporary usage restrictions during the maintenance period.
Specific plans for each parking lot include: for the public parking lot behind the Citizen Sports Center, gravel paving will be carried out to address water pooling during rain, which causes inconvenience for drivers; for Hanmaeum on-street parking lot, the road will be repaved to prevent accidents caused by sunken paving blocks; for Jungang Public Parking Lot and the multilevel parking lot, rooftop waterproofing will be performed to address water leaks; for the parking lots near Palyong Police Box, Myeongseo Commercial Area, Bonggok, Sangnam 1·2, and beside Naedong Police Box, maintenance will include asphalt paving after milling and the installation of lane delineator posts.
In particular, Samgye Public Parking Lot will undergo more comprehensive repairs due to the need for overall facility improvement. This will include crack repairs on the floor, rooftop waterproofing, ceiling and wall painting, replacement of LED lighting fixtures, reinforcement of fire safety facilities, and enhancement of CCTV systems.
Lee Jonggeun, Director of the Transportation and Construction Bureau, stated, "We will do our best to ensure that residents can use parking spaces that are more pleasant and safe through prompt and secure maintenance. We will prioritize safety and convenience, and work toward establishing a more advanced parking lot management system."
