Artificial Turf Sports Fields Planned for Guui Middle School, Shinyang Middle School, and Dongdae Attached Garam High School
Gwangjin District (District Mayor Kim Kyungho) has established an artificial turf sports field at Daewon Girls' High School to improve the environment for students' safe physical activities.
This artificial turf project was promoted to resolve issues such as dust generated by the existing dirt field and to create a stable sports environment that is not significantly affected by weather or season.
The construction of the sports field was carried out as part of the 2024 educational expense subsidy program, and the field is designed to be shared by four nearby schools: Daewon Girls' High School, Daewon High School, Daewon Foreign Language High School, and Daewon International Middle School.
During regular hours, the sports field is primarily used for students' physical education classes and school events. Outside of these times, it is also open to local residents. The district expects this to strengthen the public function of school facilities and contribute to the promotion of community sports among residents.
The newly established sports field serves not only as a simple athletic space but also as a place where students can enjoy various analog-style activities such as jump rope, dodgeball, and tag. As the use of digital devices like smartphones has become commonplace and outdoor activities have decreased, the field naturally encourages physical activity among students, resulting in high satisfaction among both students and parents.
In addition to Daewon Girls' High School, the district has decided to provide additional educational expense subsidies for the construction of artificial turf sports fields at three other schools that applied: Guui Middle School, Shinyang Middle School, and Dongdae Attached Garam High School.
Kim Kyungho, Mayor of Gwangjin District, stated, "I am very pleased to support students so they can freely participate in physical activities in a safer and more pleasant environment," and added, "We will continue to do our best not only to improve the educational environment for students but also to expand sports facilities for local residents."
Every year, the district promotes various facility improvement projects through the educational expense subsidy program, including not only the construction of artificial turf sports fields but also the installation of heated walkways and lighting improvements for school routes, reinforcement of safety facilities in indoor gyms, and the installation of rockfall protection nets on sports fields.
In addition, the district has provided budget support for a wide range of educational programs, such as reading education and after-school programs. This year, the district has allocated a budget that is 1 billion KRW higher than last year, focusing on expanding educational infrastructure to promote the healthy growth of future generations and revitalize the local community.
