Earlier, at around 1:10 p.m. on the 22nd, the retaining wall of the ground parking lot at an apartment complex in Hwado-eup collapsed, causing six parked vehicles to fall and be damaged. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
The city prioritized the lives and safety of its citizens and conducted a visual inspection by the city's Safety Management Advisory Group as an initial response.
In addition, emergency measures were completed, including the installation of retaining wall supports and waterproof sheets to prevent soil runoff.
Furthermore, to prevent additional damage, the city advised evacuation for approximately 40 households in apartments adjacent to the accident site and set up a temporary shelter for the displaced at the nearby Hwado Sports and Culture Center.
Currently, 27 people from 11 households are staying at the shelter, and the city is providing daily necessities and food support alongside other assistance.
Immediately after the accident, Mayor Joo Kwangdeok visited the site, presided over a situation assessment meeting to discuss response measures, and later visited the Hwado Sports and Culture Center to comfort the displaced residents and personally check on any inconveniences.
Mayor Joo Kwangdeok stated, "Carefully attend to the inconveniences and requests of the residents staying at the shelter, and take any necessary actions immediately," and added, "Always put the lives and safety of citizens first, and actively review emergency restoration measures going forward."
Namyangju City plans to conduct additional inspections through the Safety Management Advisory Group and hold further situation assessment meetings to discuss future action plans. The city also intends to use reserve funds for urgent restoration after providing a prior explanation to the city council.
