Following the positive drug test result of the son of Lee Cheolgyu, a lawmaker from the People Power Party, his daughter-in-law has also tested positive for marijuana.
On April 23, the Seocho Police Station in Seoul announced that they had received a report from the National Forensic Service indicating that Lee's daughter-in-law, identified as Ms. A, also tested positive for marijuana. However, the police determined that the evidence against Ms. A was insufficient and did not apply for an arrest warrant.
Lee's son, identified as Mr. Lee, was apprehended by police in October last year in a residential area of Seocho-gu, Seoul, on suspicion of attempting to retrieve liquid marijuana hidden using the so-called "throwing" method, but failed in the attempt. At the time, a preliminary reagent test returned a negative result, but a more thorough examination by the National Forensic Service detected marijuana components in his hair.
The police applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. Lee on April 18, and on the morning of April 23, a pretrial detention hearing was held at the Seoul Central District Court. A decision on whether to detain Mr. Lee is expected as early as this afternoon.
Meanwhile, a passenger in the rental car who was identified as an accomplice and booked as a suspect alongside Mr. Lee, as well as a dealer who allegedly attempted to sell drugs to them, also tested positive for marijuana and had arrest warrants requested against them. The court held a pretrial detention hearing for the passenger the previous day but dismissed the arrest warrant. The pretrial detention hearing for the dealer took place on the morning of April 23.
