Gwangsan District in Gwangju announced on April 23 that it has been selected by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety as an "Outstanding Food Safety Management Institution for 2025."
The food safety management evaluation is conducted annually to assess the food safety management performance of local governments nationwide and to identify and share best practices. This year, 245 local governments across the country were evaluated based on eight indicators, including system operation, hygiene management, and policy implementation.
The district was recognized for its achievements in operating the restaurant hygiene rating system, preventing food poisoning, managing distributed foods, providing consulting services to foreign restaurants, and strengthening hygiene at group meal facilities.
A district official stated, "We have thoroughly managed the entire process from production to consumption to ensure food safety," and added, "We will continue to strive to create a safe dining environment."
