Gyeonggi Province will invest 100 billion KRW this year to implement 52 projects aimed at securing future industrial competitiveness through artificial intelligence (AI) technology and improving the quality of life for its residents.
First, Gyeonggi Province will launch the "AI Techno Valley" initiative. To this end, the province will introduce customized technologies for each city and county through the "AI Challenge" competition and identify projects to address social issues. In addition, Gyeonggi Province will work to attract domestic and international AI cooperation centers in partnership with major tech companies such as NVIDIA, Cisco, and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
The province will also pursue joint research with leading overseas AI cities and research institutions, and build the Gyeonggi AI ecosystem through technology and talent exchanges. Collaboration between AI companies in the province and global universities and research institutes will be strengthened, and AI companies will receive support in the form of high-performance computing resources such as GPUs. In particular, the province will provide some development servers based on domestic AI semiconductors to foster local AI semiconductor companies in parallel.
Gyeonggi Province will also promote the creation of industrial and research complexes by linking private investment and building large-scale infrastructure. Four Gyeonggi AI Innovation Clusters will be established in locations such as Pangyo and Seongnam, and two AI hub clusters will be set up in the southern and northern regions. In addition, the "AI+X Academy" will be operated to support AI adoption and utilization training for companies and startups.

Gyeonggi Province will also provide personalized AI services in its care programs. These include AI and Internet of Things (IoT)-based services for checking in on seniors, health management, and leisure activities, as well as AI video analysis and consulting services for individuals with developmental disabilities. The province will also strengthen its system for preventing and responding to solitary deaths by utilizing data-driven crisis prediction and monitoring.
To build trust in AI, the province will establish an AI Committee consisting of about 25 experts and operate AI safety and ethics guidelines. Furthermore, Gyeonggi Province will introduce an "AI Registration System" to register and disclose information on AI services used by the province to residents.
Other initiatives include: expanding the production of generative AI-based content and AI services closely tied to daily life; utilizing renewable energy and introducing high-efficiency cooling systems at AI computing centers; fostering key researchers at the master's and doctoral levels with research capabilities and developing practical AI talent; and building a Gyeonggi-style generative AI model (LLM) to expand the use of AI in public administration.
Gyeonggi Province will invest 100 billion KRW in these projects this year. In particular, the Gyeonggi generative AI platform is being designed to allow for plugin-based use by linking a variety of leading external AI models with data owned by the province.
Kim Kibyung, Director of AI at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "These nine strategic areas and 52 major projects will serve as a foundation for Gyeonggi Province to become the number one global AI innovation ecosystem," adding, "We will continue to strengthen the AI ecosystem in the metropolitan area to make Gyeonggi Province a global AI hub."
