Yeongdeungpo District (District Mayor Choi Hokwon) announced that it has newly established a youth cultural space called 'Culture Lounge Young' inside the Singil-dong Youth Housing, and will hold an opening ceremony at 1:30 p.m. on April 26.
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s resident registration population statistics at the end of last year, out of Yeongdeungpo District's total population of approximately 370,000, the youth population aged 19 to 39 is about 130,000, accounting for 35%.
With more than one-third of the population being young people, the district created 'Culture Lounge Young' so that youth can take the lead, enjoy a variety of cultural activities, and grow.
'Culture Lounge Young' is located on the second floor of Singil-dong Youth Housing (28 Sinpung-ro). Covering approximately 271 square meters, it features various spaces for young people, including: the main space and communal area, the Lounge; a shared kitchen; a showroom for displaying works; and a workspace for creative and production activities. The facility will be fully operational from the opening day and will be freely accessible from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
The opening ceremony, themed as the "0th Birthday Party," will feature an a cappella performance and other inaugural events in the first part, followed by a variety of experiential programs in the second part, including a fragrance consultation booth with youth, caricature drawing, an OX quiz, and communication and exchange programs. The event is designed not just as a simple opening ceremony, but as a venue where young people can actively participate, enjoy, and interact.
Going forward, the district plans to promote a variety of youth-focused cultural activities, including training for youth cultural and arts planners, special lectures on creativity and entrepreneurship, mentoring, and communication and exchange programs. The district intends to actively support 'Culture Lounge Young' so that it can serve as both a cultural space driving youth growth and a central hub in the local cultural ecosystem.
Choi Hokwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, stated, "I hope this will become an open space where young people can communicate and create new cultures together," and added, "Since youth are the vitality and future of the city, I will support them so they can take the lead and realize their dreams."
