Kick-off Briefing Held for the Establishment of the Mid- to Long-Term Master Plan for Mobility Industry Development
Aiming to Develop Step-by-Step Strategies for Building a Pohang-Style Future Mobility Industry Ecosystem
On April 22, Pohang City held a kick-off briefing session for the "Pohang City Mobility Industry Development Mid- to Long-Term Master Plan Project," officially launching efforts to develop strategies for establishing itself as a specialized city for future mobility.
With the advancement and commercialization of cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the future mobility industry is experiencing rapid growth. The government is also actively promoting the creation and revitalization of related ecosystems, focusing on drones, urban air mobility (UAM), and eco-friendly vehicles.
In line with this trend, last year the city signed a memorandum of understanding with innovative companies, universities, and related organizations to build an advanced drone-based aviation mobility ecosystem and discover new industries. This year, the city has set out to develop a master plan to put these initiatives into action.
The objective of this project is to establish step-by-step strategies for building a Pohang-style future mobility industry ecosystem in response to rapidly changing times, including the Fourth Industrial Revolution, carbon neutrality, and the digital transformation.
During the kick-off briefing, participants reviewed domestic and international mobility industry trends and analyzed Pohang's industrial and technological foundations to discuss effective implementation strategies.
Notably, experts from the Korea Institute of Robot and Convergence, POSTECH, Handong Global University, and Pohang Technopark participated, sharing the latest trends in mobility technologies and engaging in in-depth discussions that reflected the voices of those in the industry.
Going forward, Pohang City plans to form an advisory committee composed of experts from industry, academia, and research institutes to incorporate diverse perspectives and focus on developing strategies that lead to tangible results.
Kwon Hyukwon, Director of the Job and Economy Bureau of Pohang City, stated, "This project is more than just a planning exercise; it marks an important starting point for creating a differentiated future mobility strategy unique to Pohang. We will do our utmost to establish Pohang as a leading city in the future mobility industry."
