Launching a Citizen-Participation Care Program
to Promote Adoption and Emotional Recovery
On April 22, Gwangsan District in Gwangju announced that it will launch its first-ever "Temporary Protection Support Project for Abandoned Animals" to promote the protection of stray dogs and the adoption culture.
Under the program, citizens who temporarily care for stray dogs?participating in activities such as walking, playing, and promoting adoption?will be eligible to receive up to 250,000 won in support per dog.
The program is open to Gwangsan District residents who provide temporary care for stray dogs admitted to the Gwangju Animal Protection Center (located in Bonchon-dong, Buk-gu) for a period of 50 days.
Daily care expenses, excluding veterinary treatment and medical fees, will be provided up to a maximum of 250,000 won per dog. Payment will be made after verifying the dog's condition and whether it has been returned at the end of the temporary care period. To apply, residents must visit the protection center and fill out an application form.
Gwangsan District hopes that this project will encourage citizens to actively participate in the recovery and stabilization of abandoned animals and raise awareness of the adoption culture.
Park Byungkyu, the head of the district office, stated, "We will continue to implement policies that enhance citizens' respect for life and provide a better care environment for stray dogs."
